Healthy… Mind and Body

runners-635906_960_720We all work… most of us work 1 job… some work 2 or 3… but where is the profit going?

I have multiple levels…. i teach, with coaching and tutoring, I run a woodworking business out of my garage… but recently started another avenue with an awesome future…

I am overweight and 38 years old. When you hit your 30’s, your body doesnt allow you to lose weight like you were able in your teens and early 20’s…. I went 40 days when i was 26 and lost 20 lbs… only thing I did was switch from sodas to sweet tea… seriously… nothing else.. ate out everyday… but went to sweet tea… most of the time was with sweet and low…

Now, I have worked out, joint pain… before this school year, i traveled 130 miles a day to teach for 2 years… I worked nights and Saturdays… Your body is not built to do that… I switched jobs to a closer school, but I still dont have time as much for working out because if I am not at work, I am woodworking, playing with the boys, or sleeping.

I want to be healthy… So I will start with step one… what I actually put in. I wont always be able to eat fresh foods, but with a supplement that balances your hormones and pH level, will put me on the right path…  I also want something that is NATURAL… not synthetic…

Christmas

Santa’s workshop has been in full gear… from making desks to rustic trash can cabinets, I been expanding my skills and portfolio…

My sons and I hung lights, candy canes, and put out the peanut gang…

I have a platform bed I am working on and a rustic glass panel door for a picture frame from scratch will be in the near future…

I want to thank everyone that I have been able to help and hope you have a merry Christmas….

Custom tshirts

I am trying to find a passive way to make extra income to:

First, pay off some bills

Theb save for a homestead with acreage…

It’s hard getting into an online business without being able to spend much on advertising…. I joined niche groups but someone flagged me for being spam… well I only have a few days left before that’s lifted… I hope that punk doesn’t do it again…

But anyways, I have created a few different shirts that I am attaching the link to my online store… also started an etsy business for my wood working side, Freedom Woodcrafter.

Are You Safe”

Are you safe? Do you live somewhere where life is not in a constant peril? Or are gunshots heard in the distance, or even outside your front door? Does mother nature ravage your area? You may see one or more of these elements of your surrounding. Are you safe?

If you do not feel 100% safe, then you are not alone. 63% of Americans feel less safe after the Paris bombings, which is higher than they did after 9/11. With the major disasters that have happened in recent years, Katrina, Sandy, Harvey, forecasting Irma, and the future Hurricane Lee, some people are wondering what is the next disaster. Will it be the disaster of all disasters, the Apocalypse?

Harvey is projected to cost $140-180 billion. Katrina roughly topped out about $100 billion. The massive devastation of Katrina is small compared to regional crippling that Harvey had. It stretched from Central Texas near Austin, going south to Corpus Christi and went east as far as Baton Rouge and spread northward, dumping rain through the middle of the country. 33 trillion gallons of water was poured out of Harvey.  Only 250 billion gallons of water were pumped out of New Orleans during Katrina. That is 132 times more water than New Orleans received on breached levees and the 10 inches of rain.

Wildfires are threats to my area. In the last 6 years, we have had 2011 Complex Fire (34,500 acres), 2015 Hidden Pines Fire (4400 acres) and 2017 Royal Pines Fire (25 acres). These fires have crippled the natural beauty of the landscape around our area. More than 1700 structures have burned because of these fires, where 1675 homes and structures burned in 2011.

We also have had floods in the area. Halloween 2015 and Memorial Day Floods of 2015 and 2016. Many people were displaced and some homes were destroyed. More than 100 homes were bought out in a neighboring city. Flooding was so bad in our county that schools were delayed because bus drivers could not see how much water crossed the rural roads, and school officials had to assess any damages done to the district’s buildings.

If you live in a place that you do not see these events, then you’re lucky. Take my advice, always be cautious of being complacent. Something always happens; it may not be today, this month, or this year, but regardless, you need to prepare for a natural disaster.

Hurricane Harvey

It has been awhile since I posted…

The largest and most expensive natural disaster in the United States. Many people blame Mayor Turner for not evacuating Houston. how can you evacuate 2-4 million people?

YOU CAN’T!!!! There is not enough highways to get that many people out of Houston. Many people got out, while others were high enough to weather the storm.

The storm did something that no one storm has done before, stalled out over a city or region as long as it did. No one Could have ever predicted the magnitude of what this storm produced. The forecasters predicted some of the characteristics of the storm where it would stall the first time backtrack some and then go… predicted a second landfall… and then 30″+ of rain…

No one predicted 51.88″ of rain was possible… the cold front, high pressures created the perfect storm…

Where I live in Texas, a week prior, we had a wildfire (small 35 acre), decimated by wildfires in the last 6 years, drought conditions, floods on Memorial Day the previous 2 years…  at my house, I measured 20″ of rain. I live close to the Colorado river and parts of my neighborhood were flooded. Downstream recorded 54′ ft, third or fourth highest river level in recorded history. The town of smithville and la grange saw the the brunt of the river’s force.

We used our neighborhood Facebook page in order to keep everyone updated, rain totals, flooded areas, and advice like not flushing or running water heavy appliances.

I went down to Houston this weekend. My wife’s grandparents had 4-5ft of water in their home. We ripped out the first floor, down to the studs. Most of the family that was able to be there was there. One of my good friends went with me to help. I am indebted to his generosity and strong back to travel down to help. That’s what makes Texas great.

Seeing what we endured, makes me think I am not as prepared as I should be. I will be studying what I need to do, and then prioritize the preparations and make sure we have an evacuation and shelter in place plans, depending on the need.

Let me know what you are doing for your preparations for these larger, unpredictable weather conditions.

Quick Garden Update 5-16-17

Just a few pictures of my garden over the weekend. Most plants are now producing and have been picking squash and zucchini for a while.

I am so ready for the tomatoes to get ripe.  We also have onions that should be close to pulling and jalapenos that have a good flavor to them. Hopefully we can make some salsa.

Our green beans are producing and the okra are starting to produce flowers. Definitely will have some uses for the okra… fried, sautéed, gumbo, jambalaya, and baked.

We picked some red potatoes. We tried potato boxes but never had any grow higher than the seed potato… but we still had a good crop from 16-18 plants. Next time, I will start the potatoes earlier to see if we can do a better crop. I am going to see what fall vegetables I can do with them.

If you have had success doing potato boxes, let me know what you did in order to grow potatoes higher than the seed.  Also, if anyone has had success in their garden, let us know. Pictures are always welcomed.

Thank you.

Garden Update 5-6-17

The garden is growing. The squash and zucchini have already produced more than we can eat weekly. We just harvested our potatoes. Take a look at the garden and the veggies we have already picked.

(We already ate some of the potatoes before I even thought about getting pictures.)

Playscape Build Pt 1

The playscape is a build that I am doing to enjoy our backyard to the fullest. The skills required to build it though is something I can use in a survival situation when a shelter is not available. Yes, I scavenged most of the wood, but concept of framing, decking, roofing, and making sure it is safe.

Enjoy the video .
